“7 de Mayo” is out via Sueños Globales/UML: Stream
Colombian superstar J Balvin is celebrating another trip around the sun with “7 de Mayo,” the fourth preview of his upcoming fifth studio album. The song is fittingly one of the artist’s most personal recent releases, with Balvin recounting his unlikely but record-breaking journey from humble beginnings in Medellin to the largest stages across the globe. Stripped back, pensive, and with perfect production from Tainy, J Balvin’s heartfelt wordplay is at the forefront where it belongs.
“7 de Mayo” arrives as Balvin continues to drop hit after hit. R&B crooner Khalid recently lent his vocals to the irresistible “Otra Noche Sin Ti,” where J Balvin contemplates whether his former lover is dancing to his music with her new partner. The track follows the release of “Ma G” and “Tu Veneno.” The latter track debuted at #1 on the Latin Airplay Charts and Latin Rhythm Charts, and days later, “Location,” his collaboration with Karol G, rose to the #1 spot.
The song arrives alongside J Balvin’s documentary The Boy From Medellín, which is also out today on Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Matthew Heineman, the documentary follows Balvin as he prepares for one of his biggest shows yet, a sold-out concert at the Estadio Atanasio Girardot in his hometown of Medellín in 2019. Watch here. One of the largest artists in the world and with more on the way, J Balvin’s fans are bound for an exciting 2021.
