Whipped Cream’s “The Dark” video is a VR masterpiece: Watch

“The Dark” is out now on Monstercat

Producer and singer-songwriter WHIPPED CREAM has joined forces with Jasiah and Crimson Child on “The Dark.” A haunting and dramatic masterpiece, the song showcases Jasiah’s operatic voice over textured, ominous synthwork while revealing a story of toxic love and loss, encouraging listeners to let go of what might be beautiful yet painful and unhealthy. The single sets the tone for Whipped Cream’s forthcoming EP, Someone You Can Count On, which is set for release by Monstercat on March 8th and features recent singles, “CRY” and “Angels.”

Continuing to push the boundaries of her art, the music video for “The Dark” only serves to elevate the stunning track while taking audiovisual content to the next level. Directed by Will Selviz and produced by Departure Lounge, the mixed-reality project was filmed at Metastage Canada’s first volumetric capture facility, which shot the artists on over 100 cameras in real-time, transporting their holograms into a virtual reality environment. The resulting video is the world’s highest-resolution volumetric VR music experience to date and one of the most exquisite visuals recently released. The immersive video–premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) in October–will be presented at SXSW in Austin this March, where fans can explore “The Dark” through an XR headset.

Originally debuting “The Dark” at Coachella 2022, WHIPPED CREAM has since been on a streak of major festival plays and headline dates in preparation for her EP tour this spring. Taking the stage at renowned events like Lollapalooza, Tomorrowland, ADE, and multiple Diesel shows, she’s given fans a taste of the dynamic live performances she’ll soon take around the world. Continuing to share her distinct vision with each release, WHIPPED CREAM’s next chapter is proving unmissable.
