“Blinding Light” earned the R&B crooner his first two VMAs
Is there anything better than an unforgettable MTV VMA performance? Last night, R&B megastar The Weeknd took the 2020 VMAs opening to new heights – 100 floors, to be exact. Broadcasting from The Edge at Hudson Yards in New York City, the Canadian artist was on fire as he delivered an explosive rendition of “Blinding Lights,” one of the hottest songs of the year.
Everything about the performance was pure magic. From the hazy, mesmerizing opening to the stunning helicopter views, fireworks, and lights, clearly not a single detail was left out. The Weeknd has also long delivered powerful spectacles, and his latest performance of “Blinding Lights” proves he’s at the pinnacle of an already illustrious career.
“Blinding Lights” is the latest runaway hit for The Weeknd. Already a chart-topping, multi-platinum smash, the inescapable track highlights the nostalgic 80s synths and grandiosity of the singer’s fourth studio album, After Hours. The song, likely a strong contender for the 2021 Grammys, also notched the 18x nominee his first two VMA wins for “Best R&B” and “Video of the Year.
