Stream The Weeknd’s amazing surprise EP My Dear Melancholy,

Abel Tesfaye, commonly known as The Weeknd, just dropped an impressive EP called My Dear Melancholy,. His latest 6-track journey is presented as an ongoing narrative when listened to sequentially. The Weeknd channels the same alt-R&B emotions and sounds first woven into his 2012 debut effort Trilogy. As usual, The Weeknd does not hold back lyrically, this time, pouring his heart out over his tumultuous love life.

The EP drops obvious references to his relationship with Selena Gomez, as well as with Bella Hadid. On “Call Out My Name,” many are speculating The Weeknd hints at having offered Selena his kidney. As you remember, Selena received a kidney transplant from her friend in the summer of 2017 after complications with Lupus. Abel’s relationship with the pop star ended shortly after, which led him back into the arms of Bella. On “Wasted Times,” Abel makes references to an equestrian, which others believe references the model.

The Weeknd reunites with the team that produced his 2011 mixtape House of Balloons. Although this EP does feature “Starboy” collaborators Daft Punk, it also brings something new to the table with Skrillex, Gesaffelstein, Nicolas Jaar, and Mike WiLL Made-It receiving production credits. Nicolas Jaar is credited for the composition of the EPs opening track “Call Out My Name,” meanwhile, Skrillex and Mike WiLL Made-It receive production credits throughout the entire EP. French techno artist Gesaffelstein is featured on tracks “I Was Never There” and “Hurt You.”

We can’t wait to hear The Weeknd perform these tracks live, and we won’t have to for much longer. You can find Abel at the top of bill for Coachella, Panorama, and Lollapalooza Berlin this year, so be prepared for an amazing new live show, and let’s hope for news of an international tour soon after.
