Danish singer Mekdes may be one of the newest neo-soul artists on the scene, but the 19-year-old is quickly making a name for herself. As a child, the young singer found school to be extremely draining — often feeling unable to express herself creatively and limited by the walls created by others. Bus rides to and from school quickly became a sanctuary for Mekdes, who used the time to begin writing music, and we sure are thankful she did. Today, the Ethiopian-born artist returns with “Out Of Here,” the follow-up to her smash debut single “Right Direction” and your newest essential summer bop.

Consistent with Mekdes’ style, the tune is rather autobiographical and about breaking free from societal constraints.
