Maxwell Byrne – the multi-talented Australian artist behind Golden Vessel – returns with a new side-project 1tbsp and its first single, “In Europe, Kinda Sad.”
Two years in the making, the tender house-infused track marks the beginning of a journey that will reveal a new side of Maxwell’s exquisite, chameleonic sound – culminating in 1tbsp’s upcoming debut EP, which is due for release in March.
“I started this song in mid-2018 in Amsterdam with my friend Rutger (aka The Nicholas),” shares Byrne. “He had some toy Casio keyboards, which we made a bunch of synth recordings on. I tried to use those recordings in 2 or 3 other songs, but eventually, they found their way into this project. I was actually back in Europe in late 2019 and was really inspired by the club scene in Berlin, and I started making this EP. I’m always going through old ideas and seeing if they can be repurposed.”
Maxwell Byrne’s new side project arrives following the 2020 release of Golden Vessel’s sophomore album, colt, which featured the lead single, “midwest,” among other intoxicating releases. Once again, pivoting in an experimental new direction, 1tbsp’s debut EP will definitely be worth checking out.
