“Gemini” out on Second City

Montreal-based harpist and singer-songwriter Emilie Kahn unveils a new single and music video, “Gemini,” her first new release since her 2019 album, Outro. Safe to say it was well worth the wait.

Delicate harp strums and dreamy production create an immediate earworm, while Emilie’s airy vocals, powerful delivery, and clever lyricism will have you playing this song endlessly. On the track, she reflects on the mental whiplash at the hands of a fickle person in her life.

“Gemini is a song about duality, as the astrological sign is known for,” Kahn shares. “I was captivated by this person, yet they were giving me whiplash from switching between versions of themselves. Ultimately, I had to admit to myself that maybe I had the same tendency.” Watch the music video below.

The song finds Emilie Kahn collaborating with producers Marc-André Gilbert (Charlotte Cardin, Ariane Moffat), Ben Sloan, and mixing by Joe Zook (Katy Perry, U2). Hopefully not for the last time.

“I wrote this song while reflecting after the fact at a residency in the mountains in Banff, Alberta. This is also where I met and began collaborating with cosmic connection Ben Sloan. After the residency was cut short by the pandemic, we continued to work long distance, sending harp, drums, and synth tracks back and forth. I then finished recording the song here in Montreal with the amazing Marc-André Gilbert, adding dreamy Mellotron chords and lush vocal layers.”
