“Skate Depot” is out via Art For Their Good

Channel Tres is back with a new single, “Skate Depot,” the first off his newly announced mixtape, I Can’t Go Outside. An ode to the late skate rink in Cerritos, CA where Channel held his first job, the track has an infectious funk house groove complemented by Channel’s crooned harmonies, laidback flow, and energetic vocal loops.

“Skate Depot” also arrives with a nostalgic roller skating video from Toro y Moi director Mancy Gant. Skating through pristine LA neighborhoods without care, enveloped by the warmth of the sun, palm trees, and front lawns, the visual evokes a longing for simpler times. Watch below.

The conception behind Channel’s upcoming mixtape stems from months of being stuck inside. A tough year for many, the release will see the west coaster sink deeper into his emotions, exposing a vulnerable psyche affected by pent-up frustrations, dealing daily with what it’s like to be a Black man in today’s divided world and still trying to hold onto the things that made him Channel Tres before lockdown. While the tracklist and release date are yet to be announced, I Can’t Go Outside will be a must-hear drop.

With this latest release and news of an upcoming mixtape, it’s clear Channel Tres is showing no signs of slowing. In March he announced his new label with his funk-jam single, “Weedman,” he also soundtracked two Apple commercials and the latest Grand Theft Auto. In addition to his own releases, this year has also seen Channel Tres make memorable collaborations with Disclosure, SG Lewis and Robyn, King Princess, and others. I Can’t Go Outside follows 2019s Black Moses EP. Stream “Skate Depot” below.
