Love Language EP due 10/30 on Loud Robot
Rising Japanese-African-American artist UMI has unveiled a new single and visual, “Love Affair.” The release marks the first chapter taken from the artist’s forthcoming visual EP, Love Language. The 4-track follow-up to 2018s Interlude is due at the end of October with tracks and videos being released sequentially in the coming weeks.
Love Language is informed by UMI’s upbringing as a mixed-race girl in America and always feeling slightly out of place. Years after turning to Sade, Erykah Badu, and many others to help parse her place in the world, the young artist has released an EP that explores race and intersectionality through her lens, while still fundamentally being about the multiple aspects of love.
UMI wrote and produced the anticipated EP in Los Angeles and worked with writer Taofik Kolade (“Atlanta,” “Barry”) and director Will Kindrick (Brian Wilson, Ice Cube) to write, cast, animate and direct the EP’s four parts. UMI has partnered with Loud Robot, a new music label from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot for this release. See the full tracklist below.
