Following news The 1975’s third studio album, Notes On A Conditional Form will be delayed until May 22nd – the band announced they would be dropping a new single, “Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America.” Although the track may be new to the general public, fans have anticipated the song for quite a while.

First teased in 2017, frontman Matty Healy posted a screenshot of the then-unreleased track and later performed it acoustically at small radio shows and on his live stream. The song captures Healy seemingly confessing his love for Jesus Christ whilst also declaring “I’m in love with a boy I know / But that’s a feeling I can never show.”

The 1975’s new single is by far one of the rawest and most unfiltered songs on the record and is accompanied by genius production by fellow bandmate George Daniel.

The really vulnerable and fragile song (which you wouldn’t expect from the strange yet intriguing title) also features Phoebe Bridgers, a collaboration which Healy hinted to previously. She comes in with some beautiful background vocals in the first verse and then delivers powerful and unfiltered lines like “Nice when she comes ‘round to call / Then masturbate the second she’s not there.” Stream below.
