Suga is out via 1501 Certified/300 Entertainment
On March 6, 2020, Megan Thee Stallion dropped her third project, Suga. One of the songs, “Savage,” has already become a viral TikTok challenge posted by teens and celebrities from Keke Palmer to Rickey Thompson. “Hot Girl” Megan dropped the project in the midst of a legal battle with her label on claims they are attempting to prevent her from releasing new music.
On Suga, The Houston, TX native gets personal in her song, “Ain’t Equal,” – referring to her mother and grandmother, whom she lost in the same month. Across all 9 songs on the project, Megan pays homage to the hip-hop and R&B music styles of the 90s. Artists featured on the project include Kehlani and Gunna.
Megan’s latest project follows 2019s Fever, for which she won the Mixtape of the Year at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. She’s already surpassed one billion streams across platforms, with the hit singles: “Big Ole Freak,” “Cash Shit” featuring DaBaby, and “Hot Girl Summer” featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign all achieving RIAA platinum certifications.
Hosted by Tidal, Megan recently spoke with Elliott Wilson of CRWN Magazine to discuss Suga and an upcoming album. She is currently set to perform at Coachella 2020, which was recently rescheduled due to Covid-19. See all Megan Thee Stallion coverage here and stream Suga.
