“Purple Shelter” is available now: Stream
New artist River Sultan has unveiled his debut single, “Purple Shelter.” River’s voice is charming and airy as he guides the downtempo track with dexterity. Over lo-fi and dreamy synths, the song reveals an alluring transnational soundscape. Lyrically, the LA-based singer shares abstract lyricism about belonging, consumerism, and seeking protection.
Immersed in mysticism and led by a tactful delivery, Sultan’s debut effort introduces an artist highly-influenced by his multi-cultural experiences. River cites 70s rock influences as well as classical Arabic musicians from the golden era of Egypt; a strong blend formulated from his years living in various Middle Eastern countries and the U.S.
“Purple Shelter” was co-produced and mixed by Burak Yerebakan and mastered by Nicolas Essig. With a haunting yet warm sound akin to artists like James Blake, River Sultan’s vision for storytelling and sonic influences poises his music as an essential new discovery. Listen below.
