On Sunday, P1Harmony hit The Chicago Theatre on their U.S. P1ONEER Tour. The 6-member k-pop band, consisting of Keeho, Theo, Jiung, Intak, Soul, and Jongseob, has been making notable waves since their formation two years ago – evidenced by their second sold-out U.S. tour in under a year. In that time, they’ve released five EPs and a single, “Gotta Get Back” with R&B artist Pink Sweat$, and are now supporting their latest project, Harmony: Set In, with a high-energy live show.

The excitement was palpable before the band even stepped on stage, with fans eagerly awaiting their arrival. The historic 3,600-capacity Chicago Theatre was packed with handmade signs, vibrant lightsticks, and an atmosphere charged with anticipation. As the lights cut and a dramatic video introduction played, the group stepped out to a deafening roar from the crowd. The energy only grew as they opened with “Look At Me Now,” and like the one-two punch within their choreography, followed up with their latest earworm, “Back Down.” Easily one of the standout tracks from their latest project, the band recently performed “Back Down” during their U.S. TV debut on The Kelly Clarkson Show, garnering millions of views on YouTube shortly after.

It’s clear the group blends hip-hop, pop, and rock elements in their music, making for a dynamic show where songs like “Do It Like This” and “Follow Me,” from the 2022 EP DISHARMONY: FIND OUT, explode in a live setting as the members rap in Korean and English, deliver pop harmonies with ease, and even breakdance.

Much like their TV debut, P1Harmony did not miss a beat live, a testament to their showmanship and attention to detail. Aside from dancing perfectly in sync and performing fan favorites like “Doom Du Doom,” some of the best elements of the show was the focus on production, the overall experience, and ensuring fans left feeling a personal connection to their favorite idol and the band. In those respects, the P1ONEER Tour delivered in spades. There were different skits, interesting interludes, and vibrant visuals that were not only made for the show but tied back to scenes from music videos or other performances, easter egg moments which super fans relished recognizing and piecing together.

Similar to other boy bands, each member has their own dedicated fanbase, leading to highly-prized, playful interactions in between songs and, in the case of the P1ONEER show, moments where members of the group are spotlighted as solo performers on stage, giving them a chance to serenade the crowd in their own unique way, to much fanfare. From performing covers of Beyoncé and Michael Jackson, to diving back into their own tracks, the carefully-crafted show made for one wild ride, and gave fans a different perspective of each member as they revealed more of their individual personalities.

If you’re looking for an entertaining, carefree show that proves why k-pop continues to grow in popularity, look no further than P1Harmony’s P1ONEER Tour. It’s a must-see. With upcoming stops in New York City, Washington, D.C., Nashville, Austin on Valentines Day, and Dallas on February 16th, the 6-member group is sure to leave a lasting impression.
