LÉON’s self-titled debut album is out now on BMG
Last month, Swedish singer/songwriter LÉON stopped at 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. for her first-ever headlining tour, and it was a mesmerizing show full of emotion and passion with every song she performed in one of the most popular clubs in the city.
The Stockholm-bred artist is currently on tour in support of her debut album, LÉON, which was released earlier this year, and by the third song of her D.C. set – she had the audience literally hypnotized – with everyone starting to wave and dance in the crowd to her rhythm and sound. Others let out euphoric cheers when the indie-pop artist sang, “Falling,” filling the room with a lot of excitement. There’s a lot to be excited about.
LÉON sings her songs with courage and convinction, she wears her heart on her sleeve, and in her live performances, you can see that she’s feeling every word she’s belting out. When the beat softens up, her voice lightens to an almost quiet whisper, but regardless of the style of each track, you can tell she is very emotional and enthusiastic about her craft. Her voice was especially radiant when she sang her 2017 EP title track, “Surround Me” and her single, “You And I” from her debut album.
Overall, I really liked LÉON’s show. Her melodic and powerful voice blends as perfectly with the exciting upbeat moments on the album as it does with the slower, more sentimental songs. She’s a very talented indie/pop artist and was just starting to go through her journey in life when she decided to pursue music as a solo artist in 2015. It was clear her longtime fans were in the crowd but there were many new ones getting to hear LÉON’s amazing ability for the first time. The audience was incredibly supportive and they went wild every time she approached the edges of the stage. A great sound amidst the warm lights, flowers and chill ambiance created by the stage decorations.
