Justin Bieber and benny blanco have unveiled a new song, “Lonely” that centers around the isolation Bieber confesses feeling during his successful teen pop years. The song is co-produced by blanco and FINNEAS and arrives with a music video directed by Jake Schreier depicting a young Bieber and later presenting a dramatic reveal.
“To be honest, the finished song is tough for me to listen to, considering how hard it was to get through some of those chapters,” explains Bieber. “Hopefully telling this story will encourage others to vocalize what they are going through.” See the video below.
“Lonely” marks a major collab for two artists soaring in their respective lanes. In addition to a #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for “Stuck with U” alongside Ariana Grande, Bieber’s latest single, “Holy” featuring Chance the Rapper, reached #1 on the Spotify Global Chart and has surpassed 200 million global streams. Biebs is also one of Spotify’s most-listened-to artists globally. His fifth studio album, CHANGES, also debuted at #1 on the U.S. album charts.
blanco’s 2018 debut album FRIENDS KEEP SECRETS, which featured the 4x platinum hit “Eastside” with Halsey and Khalid, “I Found You” with Calvin Harris, “Roses” with Juice WRLD and Brendon Urie, and more, was a worldwide hit, garnering over 4 billion streams to date. He’s dropped other hits like “I Can’t Get Enough” with Tainy, Selena Gomez, and J Balvin, and of course is the mega-producer behind some of pop music’s biggest hit records.
