Governors Ball 2021 returned on September 24-26
New York’s cherished Governors Ball took over Citi Field in Queens, NY, for the first time, and it was a stunning weekend! Whether you’re from the city or travel for the experience of a lifetime, the festival has quickly become a must-attend event, and this year was no different. With a lineup to match the hype, headliners included Billie Eilish, A$AP Rocky, J Balvin, and Post Malone. See photos of Governors Ball 2021 by Melodi Ramirez and Derek Admana.
FRIDAY
SweetSexySavage: Kehlani is one-of-a-kind
Roses Are Falling: Orville Peck serenades New York
SATURDAY
Breland
Breland’s unique sound blends country and hip-hop, and he sure woke everyone up as one of the first sets of the day. He even paid tribute to and performed a medley of Nelly hits acknowledging the Country Grammar rapper as the first person to inspire him to combine the genres in music. – DA
Yeek
Ahead of his scheduled Sunday set, Yeek performed an intimate show for Bud Light Seltzer Sessions, drawing in a large afternoon crowd. The South Floridian Filipino pop/R&B artist brought that cool, upbeat lo-fi wave he’s known for to NYC and everyone was vibing and dancing along. Impossible not to. – DA
Megan Thee Stallion
Megan was arguably one of the most anticipated sets of the festival and she so lived up to the hype. I also didn’t realize how many hits she’s had until she performed and every single song on the set was a showstopper. Moreover, her choreography and energy is one that I firmly believe everyone needs to experience live. – DA
Babushka Boi: A$AP Rocky hits NYC with a show we’ll never forget
SUNDAY
Faye Webster
No better way to start your day than with Faye Webster. Although her music is very laid back, the folk/indie artist’s fans were going crazy screaming and wooing song after song as she performed favorites off her latest album, I Know I’m Funny haha, and beloved classics from previous albums. – DA
Bunny Is A Rider: Caroline Polachek is hypnotic
Call Me Maybe? Carly Rae Jepsen hits the stage
Carly Rae Jepsen had arguably the most underrated set of the whole festival. Her stage presence and ability to move a crowd to tears and joy made her set the most memorable. Not only did she perform timeless and viral hits “Call Me Maybe” and “I Really Like You,” but her more recent tracks off her 2020 album, Dedicated Side B, hit just the same. Prior to seeing her set, I wasn’t fully aware of her impact, however, after seeing CRJ’s performance, I understand the fandom. – DA
