Following his latest release, “leave,” indie-pop artist gnash has returned with “outside / inside,” a double release capturing a journey through the singer’s daily thought process.
Gnash delivered a song that truly resonates with his audience. “Outside,” tells a tale of fear and worry but, more importantly, hope. On the other hand, “inside” is an internal dialogue about self-reflection and realization. In a world filled with uncertainty, this song reminds us we’re all facing similar difficulties, and “if we feel together, then we’ll feel better.” There are many questions we can’t answer and sometimes wonder if the things we once did are even normal anymore: “it’s scary to go outside / it’s scary to take a drive / it’s scary to be alive.”
A music video was also released with the double singles. Shot in May, the clip reflects on the human perspective during lockdown. The visual also juxtaposes the need to self-isolate from others while still wandering various outdoor scenes and nature. A photo montage guides “inside” while showing gnash at home. Watch above.
With just a DIY studio in his home garage, gnash focuses on penning his innermost thoughts and creating something that sparks visceral personal reactions. He first gained success after the release of his multi-platinum hit “i hate u, i love u,” which accumulated over 2 billion streams worldwide. Stream “outside / inside” on all platforms here.
