“Jump The Fence” is out now on Disruptor Records/RED Music
Earlier this month, emerging pop artist Gia Woods released her newest single, “Jump The Fence.” The track marks Gia’s first release under Disruptor Records and features an upbeat, infectious pop melody that’ll undoubtedly be stuck in your head all week. The track was released alongside a Jasper Soloff-directed video which shows Gia seemingly levitating to kiss a female lover between the barrier of a clear plastic box. The video carries a fun, kinetic energy in its sci-fi-style intercuts and metaphorical themes of female empowerment, sexual freedom, and dismantling taboo topics with style.
“Jump The Fence” follows an impressive few years for Gia Woods, but also marks the beginning of an exciting new era, confidence, and sound for the 22-year-old queer Persian artist. Similar to Gia’s breakout track “Only A Girl,” which notched over 10 million YouTube views, the new single is daring, provocative, and finds Woods pushing the envelope with her hypnotic mystery. The new single also follows Gia’s 2017 collaboration and hit “Heart Won’t Forget” with Matoma, which generated over 32 million Spotify streams.
Now, Gia Woods is looking forward to new music in 2019 and touring, but is first sharing her latest single, “Jump The Fence” and a little about the concept. Read more in our Q&A below.
How did you first get started with music?
Music has always been a big part of my life since I was little. I was in my elementary school orchestra and after that, I joined choir all the way up to my senior year of high school. My sister was also a huge music lover and she had a guitar in her room that never got played which is where I really discovered my own passion for it.
How would you describe your sound?
Moody and sensual 😉
Fans loved your single, “Heart Won’t Forget” with Matoma. How did that collaboration come about?
I wrote the song about a year before it came out. Matoma heard it, and it was the perfect collaboration with his signature production to really take it to the next level.
Your new single, “Jump The Fence” is out NOW! What inspired the track?
Yes! I’m so excited. “Jump The fence” is about drowning out the outside noise. It’s so easy to get distracted from what you really want when everyone has an opinion that you didn’t necessarily ask for. But I think when you can tune it all out and be true to yourself, that’s where the magic happens.
Will you release a music video for the new single? If so, can you tell us anything about the concept?
Yes! The video is out now! And it was all based on this plexiglass box which was a metaphor for how you can be confined when you’re more concerned about the judgment of others than your own.
“Jump The Fence” is your first single since “What I Like” was released in August 2017. What have you been up to since then?
Writing, writing, writing! There are some songs that are super meaningful to me, and I wanted to make sure I had the right partner to release those with. So I recently signed with Disruptor Records, and I think they are the most perfect partner to help me release more music. Their team is amazing and they understand my creative process and they’re super supportive!
Can we expect to hear more music from Gia Woods in 2019?
Lots! The plan is to release a single and music video almost every month. So stay tuned!!
Do you have any collab or tour plans?
I’ve been putting my live show together, so definitely gonna be performing this year and I can’t wait!
What are the three things you can’t live without this year?
My pets, because they brighten any day, my family and my friends.
