Energy is out via Capitol Records
Disclosure returns today with the release of their third studio album, ENERGY. To celebrate the release, the duo unveiled the official video for “Birthday” featuring Kehlani & Syd. They also welcomed fans into an immersive meta-verse within Minecraft inspired by the album’s vibrant world and announced a series of 2021 European/U.K. tour dates.
ENERGY is the follow-up to brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence’s 2015 album, Caracal, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and topped the U.K. Official Albums chart. In addition to an album-opening collab with Kelis, the record features a diverse cast of artists like Channel Tres, Slowthai, Mick Jenkins, Fatoumata Diawara, Blick Bassy, and Common.
Leading up to the album’s release, Disclosure unleashed the carnival-infused “ENERGY” featuring Eric Thomas, the frenetic hip-hop of “My High” ft. Aminé and slowthai and the euphoric “Douha (Mali Mali)” featuring Fatoumata Diawara – all of which showcase the versatility harnessed by these multi-talented songwriters and producers.
The album builds on the R&B-infused, disco, soul, and house blend explored on the duo’s Ecstasy EP. Clocking in at 11 songs, ENERGY’s shining moments are plentiful. “Who Knew?” with Mick Jenkins showcases a unique side to the Chicago artist’s talent, while “Ce n’est pas” with Blick Bassy captures the Cameroonian artist’s smooth vocals over a mellow afro-house soundscape. Common closes the outstanding album on the dreamy song, “Reverie.”
The journey of releasing this album has navigated various turns as the pandemic re-shaped the world as we knew it. Since shows and festivals have shuttered, the duo has selectively embarked on livestreamed DJ sets to connect with fans and help share the new music. Sessions of note include Boiler Room, R1 Big Weekend & Dance Weekend, Earth Day, and their own Kitchen Mixes, live and direct from Guy’s kitchen. Most recently, Disclosure performed an epic set at Plitvice Lakes in Croatia for Cercle in partnership with Amazon Music.
In addition to their lauded sets, it was also announced that Disclosure is part of the newest line-up for the BBC Radio 1 Residency, which brings listeners into the world of the biggest names in dance music from across the international club spectrum. Disclosure’s residency will air on BBC Radio 1 every second Monday of the month, beginning September 14.
Ten years since their debut, the pair continue their impressive ascension with an album that is experimental, inspired by a massive palette of international sounds, and uniquely Disclosure. Since emerging, the brother duo comprised of Guy and Howard Lawrence has amassed over 5.1 billion streams and 4.8 million album sales, received five GRAMMY nominations, and sold 500,000 tickets to their headline shows. They’re also highly sought after festival headliners all over the world. Both of their full-length albums topped the U.K. Official Albums chart and received GRAMMY nominations for Best Dance/Electronic Album. Settle was named the No. 1 dance album of the decade by Billboard. A pair of EPs – Moonlight and Ecstasy – followed.
