See the 2021 Bonnaroo schedule HERE
Bonnaroo‘s 20th anniversary is days away, and if you aren’t already deep-diving the lineup, I’ve got you covered. Of course, The Farm will be buzzing over Foo Fighters, Lizzo, and Tyler, the Creator headlining, but there’s nothing better than seeing new talent. So, here are ten rising artists to add to your 2021 Bonnaroo schedule:
Briston Maroney – Thursday @ 3:00 pm (That Tent)
Are you “Freakin’ Out On the Interstate”? Knoxville native Briston Maroney is one of the first artists you can catch at Bonnaroo this year. Following his massive aforementioned single, which has notched nearly 100 million global streams, the indie-rock artist released his Atlantic Records debut album, Sunflower, with songs “It’s Still Cool If You Don’t” and more.
Joy Oladokun – Thursday @ 6:15 pm (This Tent)
Breakthrough singer-songwriter Joy Oladokun is set to make her Bonnaroo debut! Earlier this year, the Nashville-based artist unveiled her Verve/Republic debut album, in defense of my own happiness, which Rolling Stone has already named one of the “Best Albums of 2021 So Far.” If the performance is anything like Joy’s recent live cut of “judas,” Bonnaroo is in for a treat.
99 Neighbors – Friday @ 12:15 am (That Tent)
Vermont alt-rap 99 Neighbors arrive with new singles “49er,” “Live a Little,” and plans to release an expansive new project, Wherever You’re Going I Hope It’s Great. Is there a better time to catch a group perform live at a festival? Making their debut with a midnight set, The Brockhampton-esque collective is delivering a must-see glimpse of their next chapter.
Jake Wesley Rogers – Friday @ 1:30 pm (Who Stage)
Bonnaroovians, remember that legendary 2014 headliner with the red piano? That’s right– Sir Elton John himself has gushed about Jake Wesley Rogers. Calling his songwriting “beautifully formed,” the British star is the latest notable artist captivated by Rogers’ poignant lyricism and soaring vocals. Signed by Justin Tranter, Jake recently shared “Weddings and Funerals,” his third single following his 2019 EP, Spiritual. He’s the first to make his case on the Who Stage this Friday.
Jac Ross – Friday @ 1:45 pm (That Tent)
Darkchild Records/Island Records signee Jac Ross is an R&B crooner with a powerful message and unbelievable vocal chops. In addition to sharing “It’s OK To Be Black” in 2020, the Florida native has delivered other catchy songs showing off his stunning range and distinct songwriting like “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” and “Saved.” Don’t miss this set.
Morgan Wade – Friday @ 2:45 pm (This Tent)
If you couldn’t miss Marren Morris or Kacey Musgraves in 2019, recent lineup addition Morgan Wade should be on your radar. This year, Morgan unveiled her Ladylike/Sony debut album, Reckless, featuring the beautiful hit track “Wilder Days.” Wade takes the stage ahead of a fall tour with Lucero and following lauded stints with Ashley McBryde and American Aquarium.
Bailey Bryan – Friday @ 2:45 pm (Who Stage)
Self-proclaimed “sensitive bad b*tch” Bailey Bryan hits The Farm for the first time on Friday, and you might “want to ride the wave” with her. Earlier this year, the rising artist released her debut project, Fresh Start, on 300 Entertainment, offering a reflective glimpse into her journey towards personal growth and self-discovery. The project is led by the hit “play w/ me.”
Bren Joy – Friday @ 4:00 pm (Who Stage)
If you aren’t already familiar with R&B singer/songwriter Bren Joy, there’s no better time than his hometown performance at Bonnaroo on Friday. In 2019, the Nashville native independently unveiled his debut EP Twenties, with singles “Sweet” (feat. Landon Sears) and “Henny in the Hamptons” generating over 15 million streams. Recently signed with Warner Records, he released the project’s deluxe edition this year with the hit “Insecure” featuring fall 2021 tourmate Pink Sweat$.
Hero the Band – Saturday @ 2:00 pm (Which Stage)
Hero the Band is a quartet of brothers from Atlanta making music that blurs lines of stadium-ready rock, R&B, emo, and pop. In 2019, the guys released their LAVA/Republic-signed EP, Back to Myself, led by the energetic “Trouble In My Mind” and the project’s title track. If you’re interested in having an indie-filled weekend, these guys need to be on your schedule.
Lick – Saturday @ 6:15 pm (The Other Stage)
Let LICK melt your face. Just one DJ out of Bonnaroo’s unbelievable dance lineup, the frenetic DnB, heart-rattling BPM, and emotive soundscapes are calling all rail riders and headbangers to the Other Stage. Currently releasing with ALT:Vision (Medasin, k?d), LICK shared “Infusion” last September on Excision’s Subsidia Records, and remixed Liquid Stranger’s track “Psychonaut.”
