Rising folk/alt-pop Jessie Mazin unveils debut EP, ‘untitled.jpeg’
Today, rising introspective folk and alternative pop voice Jessie Mazin releases her stunning debut EP, untitled.jpeg. Spanning six tracks, the project is a raw, clear-eyed reflection that confronts the societal whiplash of growing up in an increasingly disorienting time without romanticizing the world’s chaos.
Produced by Carlos de la Garza and Adam Melchor, Mazin lays bare the unsettling reality of political unrest, personal heartbreak, and existential exhaustion as a young adult, across the EP. Having grown up on the internet, the record channels that distinctly online coming-of-age into each track, capturing the shift from digital adolescence to adult reality, with its title reflecting both the permanence and performance of her online presence.
Of the project, Mazin shares, “I’m coming out the gate completely honest and strong in my beliefs. With my first project, I’m setting a tone where I’m not going to back down. I believe what I believe and I’m unafraid to speak on it.”
Opening with the previously released, searing rally cry, “the man with money in his hands,” Mazin takes direct aim at systemic greed that puts profit over people, setting the tone for a project that does not shy away from unnerving topics. On the other end, “i cut out my brain” closes the EP in a state of near-detachment, tracing the instinct to shut down in the face of the quiet normalization of injustice. In between the record, songs like “alive” search for footing in moments of disillusionment, while “the precipice,” “love is a flightless bird,” and “throw me in the water” map the emotional fallout of connection, obsession, and loss.
