PHASES is out via BMG/MDDN
In June, emerging alt-pop group, Chase Atlantic dropped their second album, PHASES. The album marks the group’s official full-length follow-up to their 2017 self-titled debut album and follows DON’T TRY THIS, their EP released earlier this year.
In celebration of their major release, the Australian trio simultaneously embarked on a 19-date tour across North America, kicking off with a sold-out date in Los Angeles and culminating at The Fillmore in Silver Spring in late July. Though it’s always bittersweet to have your city host the last date of a must-see tour – there was something uniquely special about this closing night that made it completely worth the wait.
With PHASES, we see – Mitchel Cave, Christian Anthony, and Clinton Cave – amplifying their clever sonic eclecticism to new extremes while continuing to lay emotional and dark lyrics over a smooth blend of alt-pop, trap, and rock. Over the last few months, the album was teased with the singles, “HER,” “STUCKINMYBRAIN” and “LOVE IS (NOT) EASY” and by show night in late July, you already know the DMV had every word down. Thankfully, Chase Atlantic matched our enthusiasm with insane new visuals and a reimagined live performance spanning their albums, singles, and EPs.
After seizing our attention with a PHASES video intro, the crowd roared as the album opener, “ANGELS” filled the sold-out venue. “WHAT U CALL THAT,” the trap-influenced bop from DON’T TRY THIS followed and was a total vibe leading into a hazy night of intense lights and the album’s lead single, “HER.” The other two album singles would garner the same energy later in the night but one of the best parts was watching a crowd with mixed levels of fandom jamming to every career-spanning track. 2015s smash hit “Friends” from Chase Atlantic’s Nostalgia EP drew unwavering cheers, as did 2017s “The Walls” from their debut album.
After running through their hit “Swim,” and a few other tracks, the band finally played a live cut of their 80s-tinged pop anthem, “HEAVEN AND BACK” from PHASES and “LIKE A ROCKSTAR” from DON’T TRY THIS. We then got treated to a show closer that included 2017’s “Uncomfortable” and “Okay.” After 19-dates across North America, the guys of Chase Atlantic arrived in Maryland ready to deliver an unforgettable performance and delivered in spades.
The visual show that is nearly impossible to take your eyes off is cut only by the Aussie trio running across the stage, jumping, commanding the crowd to singalong, and dancing until the walls are sweating. It was the perfect night to end the first leg of the PHASES tour and an exciting prelude to the band’s European and Australian dates that begin in October and run through mid-November.
