“BRUXOS” is out on Virgin Music: Stream
Pongo is back to cast a spell with her throttling new single, “Bruxos.” Fresh off the 2020 release of her EP UWA, the rising Angolan-Portuguese artist drops an effortlessly energetic track bound to set dancefloors across the globe ablaze.
“Bruxos” means sorcerer in Portuguese and refers to the belief that Pongo was confronted with when growing up in Angola, that jealous people cast spells on those who succeed. Pongo grew up with this idea stuck in her head, purposefully aiming not to succeed too much in whatever she undertook, for fear of being caught by the curses of these sorcerers, dissatisfied with their own lack of success.
Released in June, I’ve had this song endlessly on repeat and you will too after hearing it. The melody is relentless, infusing flows from various global electronic music genres (dancehall, BaileFunk), while having a large majority of the elements played by fantastic in-studio instrumentalists, ensuring the energy and feel of a live performance from the confines of an untamable track.
It’s no surprise the sorcerer – or bruxos – behind the track is King Doudou. A quickly rising producer already notching notable credits for his magic on J Balvin’s “Negro” and Bad Gyal’s “Fiebre.” Sparking another hit, he highlights Pongo’s jaw-dropping performance with an equally amazing soundscape. Listen below and catch Pongo on her 15 date UK headline tour – kicking off at London’s EartH on July 31.
