Kid Bloom Brings Psych Pop to Chicago’s Bottom Lounge [Photos]

Earlier this year, Kid Bloom set out on tour in support of his new EP, Inner Light (Phase 1), and his stop at Chicago’s Bottom Lounge was a clear standout. The LA-based artist, known for his seamless fusion of psych-pop and indie rock, brought a sense of effortless cool to the intimate venue, wrapping the crowd in his signature blend of lush melodies and driving rhythms.

Released in February, Inner Light (Phase 1) is the follow-up to Kid Bloom’s 2023 Shaky Knees EP. The set featured two standout tracks from Phase 1: “Dead Butterflies” and “That’s What Happens.” “Dead Butterflies,” a wistful jam with a bittersweet edge, captured the feeling of a flame coming to an end. Its infectious energy moved the crowd, even as the deeper emotional themes lingered beneath the surface. In contrast, “That’s What Happens” delivered a slow-burning, bass-driven groove that brought a sultry vibe. Though different in tone, these tracks showcased the emotional depth and creative range of Phase 1, each pulling the audience into its unique atmosphere.

Beyond the favorites, Kid Bloom gave fans a taste of what’s next with unreleased tracks from Inner Light (Phase 2), a fantastic, unexpected twist to the night. The songs injected fresh excitement into the night, giving the fans lucky enough to attend an exclusive preview. The seamless flow between familiar tunes and new material created a sense of anticipation in the room, making the experience feel singular and forward-thinking.

Opening the night, viral sensation turned R&B artist RMR brought his genre-blurring blend of rap and soulful melodies, providing a dynamic contrast that set the tone for Kid Bloom’s set. Together, the performances made for a captivating and memorable night, leaving the crowd eager for what’s next in Kid Bloom’s evolving journey.
