Jeff Draco releases “Excess” – first single since 2024 EP, ‘Attitude’
Washington, D.C.-based indie-pop singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and artist Jeff Draco returns today with “Excess,” his first new single since 2024’s Attitude EP. The track is available now on all streaming platforms.
“Excess” arrives after the longest gap between releases of Draco’s career. Heartbroken and strung out, Draco’s chorus lays it all on the line: “lived for years in excess / i’m sorry it took so long for me to come to / caught up in drugs and sex / i didn’t see how badly i was hurting you.” Elsewhere, he circles the tension between intention and follow-through—“you understand / i got a plan / but my mind won’t… follow it through”—and the uneasy clarity that comes with recognizing your role in the damage.
“It’s been 483 days since I’ve released music,” Draco shares.
“That’s the longest I’ve gone without putting anything out and it has felt weird, but not for bad reason. In the past year and a half, a lot has changed in my life. TLDR: I got over a breakup (hitting rock bottom and climbing my way back while doing so), reconnecting with a lot of old friends, reconnecting with myself, and most importantly making the best music I’ve ever made with some of my favorite people in the world. This song is a confrontation of the idea of who you are in your head versus the reality of your actions and habits, and the result those actions truly inflict on your life. It’s a mirror. It’s about realizing you need to do better, and then fighting to make sure you follow through – for yourself, for everyone in your life.”
The release is accompanied by an in-studio performance, recorded last May at Millie’s in Washington, D.C. Watch below.
“Excess” was written, produced and recorded by Jeff Draco, with co-production and mixing by Grant Claytor, and mastering by Christopher Colbert. Jeff’s third EP, Attitude, was released September 13, 2024, and received support from NOTION, Earmilk, Washington City Paper, Melodic Magazine, and Get Some Magazine. The project was also featured during a BBC Radio 1 on-air interview.
On April 10, Jeff will perform his first show of the year at Metro Baltimore, opening for Ashes To Amber and Nature TV. Stream “Excess” HERE and see all Jeff Draco tour dates and tickets HERE.
