San Francisco indie-pop darlings French Cassettes have been transforming stages into musical dreamscapes throughout their Fall 2023 tour across the US. Stepping into the spotlight at Metro Baltimore, excited shouts erupted from the crowd below. Just their second stop on tour, the energy was high, offering the band a warm welcome to the East Coast.
Dramatic red lights on each of the four band members elevated the ambiance alongside beautifully nostalgic and retro sounds of hit songs like “Utah” and “Santa Cruz Tomorrow.” Lead singer Scott Huerta’s velvety vocals soared effortlessly, infusing each lyric with heartfelt emotion that resonated with the captivated audience. Their performance exuded a magnetic charisma that had the audience swaying in unison, leaving the city with a promise of more unforgettable performances to come.
French Cassettes’ most recent music release arrived just over a week before embarking on tour. The single, titled “Medium Horny”, is a dreamy tune with yearning lyrics, complete with a cinematic music video to supplement.
Opening for French Cassettes was local indie-pop songwriter Jeff Draco, whose soulful melodies set the perfect tone for the evening. The dynamically energetic performance showcased his raw talent, providing an exceptional prelude to the main event with the whole crowd jumping and dancing along. Draco has been gaining traction in the local scene in recent years, especially following his tour of the East Coast and Midwest this past June.
The combination of Jeff Draco’s and French Cassettes’ seamless fusion of indie-pop allure and heartfelt lyricism created an enchanting atmosphere that lingered long after the evening faded away. As the tour continues its journey across the country, French Cassettes are sure to leave a lasting imprint on the hearts and minds of music lovers everywhere.
