“Secondhand Smoke” is out on Elektra Records
Singer-songwriter Brynn Cartelli has released a heartfelt new single, “Secondhand Smoke,” describing the lingering effects of a toxic relationship the singer needs to breathe out to move forward. Like capturing lightning in a bottle with ease, the young artist has once again demonstrated the depth of her impressive songwriting and dynamic range as she captures intense emotions and shares them in a heart-wrenching yet empowering song.
“I wrote ‘Secondhand Smoke’ during a challenging time in my life where I was trying to escape a certain situation,” describes Cartelli. “I was feeling anxious since I hadn’t moved past that period yet. The song came about in anticipation for the hopeful future of freedom I knew was coming next. I hope listeners feel free from a painful relationship or place when they hear this song.” Gaining a devoted fanbase on TikTok after being teased for months, the song arrives with a visualizer and will soon be followed by a music video.
Brynn Cartelli, who won season 14 of NBC’s The Voice at just 15 years old, has already had an impressive career, sharing stages with Kelly Clarkson, OneRepublic, and Maroon 5, and releasing her debut EP, Based on a True Story, in 2021. Now 19, the artist follows a string of recent singles, “Gemini,” “Girl Code,” and “Convertible in the Rain,” with “Secondhand Smoke,” once again proving she’s a force to be reckoned with in the pop world.
In celebration of the new release, Cartelli will perform the song on The Kelly Clarkson Show. A powerful and moving addition to Cartelli’s already impressive body of work, “Secondhand Smoke” is the precursor to an upcoming full-length project and is available now.
